Children's & Paediatric Health in Wollongong
Kids don’t come with a manual, but having a GP who knows your child, understands their development, and is there when you need them makes parenting a little easier.
At Wollongong Doctors, we provide general practice care for children from birth through to young adulthood, covering everything from newborn assessments and childhood immunisations to developmental health checks and early intervention support.
Paediatric Health at Our Wollongong Clinic
At Wollongong Doctors, children’s health is an important part of what we do. Our GPs provide a broad range of paediatric health services, taking the time to assess each child’s individual health needs and work with families to support their child’s growth, development, and wellbeing.
Children's Health Services
Newborn Assessments
The early weeks of a baby’s life involve important health milestones. Our GPs can conduct newborn assessments to review your baby’s health, weight, feeding, and general development, and address any concerns you may have in those early days and weeks.
Developmental Health Checks
Regular developmental checks are an important part of monitoring how your child is growing and progressing. Your GP can assess your child’s physical, cognitive, and social development at key stages and discuss any areas where additional support or referral may be appropriate.
Childhood Immunisations
Keeping your child’s vaccinations up to date is one of the most important steps in supporting their health. Wollongong Doctors provides childhood immunisations in line with the National Immunisation Program (NIP) schedule, from infancy through to adolescence. Your GP can review your child’s immunisation history and advise on any vaccines that may be due.
Acute Illness and Injury
When your child is unwell, getting them seen promptly matters. Our GPs are available to assess and manage a wide range of common childhood illnesses and minor injuries, including ear infections, throat infections, respiratory illnesses, skin conditions, and more.
Early Intervention
For children and young people with unique developmental or health needs, early intervention can make a meaningful difference to long-term outcomes. At Wollongong Doctors, our GPs can assess children who may benefit from additional support, discuss relevant referral pathways, and coordinate care with other health professionals where appropriate.
Child and Adolescent Health
As children grow into adolescents, their health needs change. Our GPs provide ongoing care for adolescent patients, including general health reviews, mental health support, and management of conditions relevant to this stage of life. We aim to provide a comfortable, non-judgmental environment where young patients feel at ease discussing their health.
Chronic Condition Management in Children
Some children live with ongoing health conditions that require regular monitoring and management, such as asthma, allergies, or other chronic conditions. Our GPs can provide ongoing GP-led care and coordinate with specialists and allied health providers where relevant to support your child’s ongoing health needs.
Referrals and Specialist Coordination
Where specialist input is required for your child’s care, such as a paediatrician, developmental specialist, or allied health provider, our GPs can arrange appropriate referrals and support coordinated follow-up care.
What to Expect at Your Child's Appointment
Bringing a child to the GP can sometimes feel stressful, particularly with younger children or anxious patients. At Wollongong Doctors, our GPs take the time to make children and their families feel comfortable. During your child’s appointment, your GP will:
- Discuss your child’s current health, any symptoms or concerns, and their relevant health history
- Conduct a physical assessment appropriate to your child’s age and the reason for the visit
- Address any immunisations or health checks that may be due
- Discuss any developmental concerns and advise on next steps where appropriate
- Arrange relevant pathology, referrals, or follow-up care as needed
You are welcome to bring along any health records, immunisation documents, or previous specialist letters to help your GP understand your child’s health background.
100% Bulk Billing Clinic
Wollongong Doctors is a bulk billing clinic. Patients with a valid Medicare card are bulk billed for GP consultations, meaning there is no out-of-pocket cost for your child’s appointment.
Please note that some services may incur a private fee. We recommend contacting the clinic prior to your appointment to confirm the billing arrangements relevant to your specific care.
